Located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, Blount County is situated near the geographic center of the eastern United States and is within 500 miles of approximately 50 percent of the U.S. population. Our community is located in one of the fastest growing counties in Tennessee with approximately 120,000 residents. McGhee Tyson Airport, the principle commercial airport for East Tennessee, is located in Blount County, and Knoxville is only minutes away. A web of highways and interstates are also easily accessible.
The county is bordered on the east by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and on the west by the great chain of lakes created by the Tennessee Valley Authority. The Little River, flowing out of the Great Smokies, winds its way across the county and into the lakes that are part of the Tennessee River system. Outdoor recreational opportunities abound, including hiking, camping, white water rafting, canoeing, kayaking, biking, tennis and golf. Blount County has beautiful public parks and over 20 miles of greenways and paved bike trails.
More than 100 manufacturing plants operate in Blount County. The leading employers are DENSO, Alcoa and Blount Memorial Hospital. Ruby Tuesday’s corporate offices and training center are located in Maryville. Pellissippi State Technology Community College is located in Blount County and Maryville is home to Maryville College, a highly ranked four-year liberal arts institution. A new creative arts center for cultural activities and events is under construction on the Maryville College campus. Maryville/Alcoa Community Orchestra and the Appalachian Ballet Company provide music and dance for area residents. The Foothills Fall Festival in October has been rated as one of the four top festivals in the country by USA Today. 
The school systems in the area are rated amongst the best in the state. The academic programs offer advanced placement classes, a transitional bilingual education program for students who are English language learners, music, and physical education, art, and technology classes. Orchestra, band, and theater programs provide opportunities for students to perform before audiences. Our public schools have outstanding athletic programs, many of whom have won state championship titles
Knoxville, home of the University of Tennessee, is 15 miles north of Maryville and offers many attractions of a larger city – NCAA and minor league sports, theater, symphony, opera, ballet, museums, art exhibits and fine restaurants. |
