Our Diocese

“The Diocese of East Tennessee is one church. We are called to love in the name of Jesus Christ and to grow in people and in resources for ministry and for mission. We anticipate miracles, as God works through us!”

 - The Rt. Rev. Charles G. VonRosenberg, Bishop of East Tennessee

The Diocese of East Tennessee is 45 churches and five worshiping communities headed by a bishop of the Episcopal Church, the Rt. Rev. Charles vonRosenberg. The offices of the bishop and his staff are located in the Diocesan House in West Knoxville.  More may be learned about the make-up and the history of the diocese by visiting the diocese website.

Our cathedral, Saint John’s Cathedral, is located in downtown Knoxville.

The Diocesan Camp and Retreat Center, Grace Point, is located west of Knoxville. It is on the banks of  Watts Bar Lake near Kingston, TN, and it has more than 250 acres of woods and hills.

In 1998, the Diocese helped found the Episcopal School of Knoxville located in West Knoxville, one of 8 Episcopal schools in the diocese.  This school is an independent, co-educational school which offers academic excellence and character education to students in grades Kindergarten-8.  The school offers a faith-based environment, but students do not have to subscribe to any particular faith to attend. The Episcopal School actively seeks children of diverse beliefs and backgrounds and currently has over 250 children enrolled.
