Mission Trips

St. Andrew's has made four trips to the Mississippi gulf coast, with adult and youth work teams and a choir trip to perform choral concerts in this ravaged area.

In June, 2008 we traveled to the Santee Indian Reservation in South Dakota.  Read below for more information about this recent trip.

Santee Mission Trip, June 2008

The Diocese of South Dakota became our Companion Diocese in 2006 and The Most Merciful Savior – Santee Episcopal Church was selected as our “sister” church. Our sister church is actually on the Santee Reservation located in Northeast Nebraska but is part of the South Dakota Diocese. The initial priority for this new ministry was to get to know our Native American brothers and sisters on the Santee Reservation because to be of service to them and for them to be of service to us we must first get to know one another. A mission trip was planned for June 18th – June 25th suggested by Father David Hussey and his wife The Most Reverend Mercy Hobbs to coincide with the big Santee Reservation “Wacipi” or PowWow. The town and state part closest to the Santee Reservation is the Village of Niobrara and Niobrara State Park so visit the following web sites for further information: www.niobrarane.com, www.nebraska.com and www.ngpc.state.ne.us. These web sites will also link you to others of interest.

Through Father Hussey we know that their church is much in need of a restroom with running water. They have the know how and manpower to build it but very little money for materials.

The goal of our Santee Reservation Ministry is to foster a close supportative relationship between us and our Companion Diocese, our sister church The Most Merciful Savior and our Lakota brothers and sisters. If you are seeking a truly rewarding ministry I encourage you to join this new ministry as a mission trip volunteer, correspondence  writer (pen pal) or through financial contributions to the account for this ministry.
