Education for Ministry (EFM)
When: Wednesdays at 6:30pm, beginning September 8, 2010 Where: Library Contact: Nancy Cain or Dick Cox
EFM is a four year intensive program designed to help participants discover and develop their own personal ministries through study and reflection. Individuals meet one evening each week and commit to one year of study at a time, beginning the second week of January each year.
This program was developed by the School of Theology at the University of the South at Sewanee. It began at St. Andrew's Church in 1992 with Dick Cox as Mentor. The first year examines the Old Testament, second year the New Testament, third early church history and fourth, the major theologians of the church and subjects such as prayer and suffering.
Members of the group share their spiritual autobiographies as a first step toward developing a community. There is a charge for the program, but scholarships are available. EFM is open to all, not just St. Andrew's parishioners, Episcopalians or even Christians. Former students (more than 50 to date) have included people of Southern Baptist, Jewish, and Methodists belief, and persons not affiliated with a specific church. |
